We drove towards Hanalei Bay, in search of the surf spot. Poipu it is good spot if you are an advance surfer because of the reefs, so we rather keep it safe.
Hanalei has a strand of incredibly beautiful beaches. The bay, calm as a lake in summer reflects the mountains, but in winter you can find amazing long waves, and as you moving towards the ends of the bay the bigger breakpoints. If you look for smaller waves, stay close to the pier.
We rent some boards at the Hanalei town, and search for the wave. We parked at Pine Trees, a local beach which is “AI” beach. You can find signs of love and support all over the beach park, and also you can see their friends and family. His son Axel Irons was playing around with her mother that day.
We spent all morning surfing, and then went to have some food at the town. Tried some local beers, which besides it good taste they have an amazing design representing the locals roots.
After lunch, we head back for some afternoon surfing. Lots of kids surfing and training on their surf camps, the locals hitting the waves after their jobs, it was so fun been inside and outside the sea. Even Bethany Hamilton was surfing there, and pregnant!
On our way back to the south, we stop by Princeville for sunset. Safe to say, it was an unforgettable sunset. A giant red perfectly rounded ball of fire getting into the endless sea, and on other opposite side, a perfect rainbow. We couldn’t decide were to look at, a magnificent scenery.
Hanalei, will be always a place we wish to come back.
